This lock with key brooch is a very early design from the iconic Los Castillo studio of Taxco, Mexico. Los Castillo was established in 1939. The Castillo brothers were apprentices for William Spratling in the very beginning at the Spratling studio "Las Delicias". In 1939, with the support of Margot van Voorhies Carr who was the wife of Antonio Castillo, the studio was established. The work of the Los Castillo studio has been featured in many museum exhibitions and publications.

Pin length is just over 2 1/2 inches and is 1 7/8 inches wide. Weight for the pin is 1.1 ounces. Markings are "Los Castillo Taxco Sterling Made in Mexico 134". The pin is composed of sterling silver. The key attached is orignal. This pin / brooch is a very early piece for the Los Castillo studio and has a design number of 134 indicating it was most likely made in 1939 or 1940.
