Fred Davis Design Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver & Turquoise Art Glass Bangle Bracelet
VB0197

This vintage Mexican silver bangle bracelet is based upon a classic Fred Davis design. Fred Davis was an American who worked for the Sonora News company and originally supplied folk art at the train stations throughout Mexico for purchase. He was the first to incorporate indigenous Mexican motifs in silver jewelry and promote the jewelry to tourists visiting Mexico in the 1920's. William Spratling in turn followed the lead of Fred Davis and established a new industry of silver jewelry manufacture in Taxco.

Details:
Bracelet has a wearable length of 6 1/2 inches and is 1 inch wide. Weight is 1.8 ounces. Markings are "Sterling Mexico" with part of the markings worn away. The bracelet is composed of sterling silver and turquoise colored art glass. The art glass is very resistant to chipping and unless looked at under magnification appears to be natural turquoise. The bracelet is in very good vintage condition with one tiny dent noted on the back of the bracelet. This was only noticable in very close inspection. It was created prior to 1948 when the Eagle marking system went into effect. The bangle bracelet has a tongue in box closure and is hinged.
